Sub-Zero Repair Bothell is an independent shop that works on one make of equipment: Sub-Zero refrigeration, with most of its calls somewhere on the path water takes from the house pipe to the ice bin.

Why the tap comes first

A Sub-Zero that stops making ice is usually quoted for a new ice maker. What we usually find is further back: a shutoff turned part-way, a line kinked when the unit was pushed home, a filter that never locked in, an inlet valve that no longer opens. Checking in the order the water travels costs a few minutes and saves replacing the most expensive part on a guess.

The same order holds for a separate undercounter ice machine, with one more stop at the end: the drain, or the pump that lifts the water out.

What we will not do

• Name a price before the unit has been looked at.
• Fit a part on a hunch and charge for the guess.
• Talk you into a repair that costs more than the unit is worth to you. If replacing it is the better call, you hear that.
• Take on a unit that is still inside its manufacturer warranty. That goes to the manufacturer first, and we say so on the phone.
• Bill a house plumbing fault as an appliance repair. Where the problem is a plumber's, the note we leave says so.
