When the complaint is cubes coming out small, hollow or not at all, what we usually find is water arriving weakly: a loaded filter, a shutoff not fully open, or house pressure below what the model asks for. What weak pressure does to the ice
Sub-Zero puts low water pressure behind three troubles in the ice maker area: a water valve that stops working properly, a line or fill tube that freezes, and water overflowing. From the kitchen those look like small or hollow cubes, a lump of ice behind the ice maker, or an empty bin. None of them starts in the ice maker, so a new module rarely cures them.
Wells, reverse osmosis and the regulator
For the UC-15I undercounter ice machine, Sub-Zero suggests a pressure booster or regulator when production keeps stopping on a reverse osmosis or well system. An in-line filter on the house supply must still deliver a constant pressure within the model’s range.

- No single number covers every Sub-Zero: some models are rated for 20 to 100 psi, others for 35 to 120, the Classic filter is specified for 35 to 120, and the UC-15I ice machine wants a steady 20 to 80. - Can low water pressure make ice cubes hollow?
- It can, and it is seldom the only suspect. Sub-Zero ties hollow cubes to a spent filter on models that have one, and its Classic troubleshooting also points them at a dirty condenser. We check both at the unit first, and hand the house pressure to a plumber once the unit side checks out.
