Two faults, one band
A valve that no longer opens leaves the mold dry and the bin empty. A valve that no longer closes lets water creep through between fills, and that water turns to ice at the fill tube or collects in the bin. They look nothing alike from the kitchen, yet the repair is the same kind of work on the same part, so both sit in the ice and water band.
What we rule out first
Sub-Zero names low water pressure as a cause of a valve that will not work, a line or fill tube that freezes, and water that overflows. So the pressure arriving at the unit is proven before the valve is condemned, and a jam at the fill cup is cleared before anyone blames a leak on the valve. If the house side is the fault, you are told it is a plumber’s job and the $89 is the whole bill.
