When the complaint is a Sub-Zero ice maker that has simply stopped, what we usually find is a module that works and is not being fed: no water past the valve, a fill tube iced over, a filter that never seated. What the module does between fills
The control calls for water, the inlet valve opens for a moment, and the fill runs down the fill tube into the mold. The freezer does the freezing. When the cubes are set, the ice maker harvests them, freeing the batch and pushing it out into the container, and the level arm checks whether there is room for another. Sub-Zero puts a batch at eight cubes; on Classic built-ins the cycle comes round about every two hours.
So a module can only be judged on a fill that arrived. A dry mold means the water stopped upstream.
When it really is the module
The mold is full and frozen but nothing comes out, cubes come out broken, or the drive hums and stops part-way. Before blaming the assembly we clear any jammed cube, check that the bin sits level on its rails and that the fill cup is clear, because each looks the same from the kitchen. If the module still fails once the fill is proven, replacing it is the repair, and the $89 diagnosis is what tells you so.
